                                                                    Porsche 962 of Bob Akin, Hans Stuck and Jo Gartner waged a ferocious
                                                                    battle with the Lowenbrau Porsche of Al Holbert, Derek Bell and Al Unser Jr.

                                                                    A turbo failure on the Lowenbrau car dropped it to third place. The
                                                                    winning Akin entry set all time speed and distance records of 1,394.82
                                                                    miles at an average speed of 115.852 mph.
